You: – Bullshit! Its just marketing and im sure their facebook page is just spam spam spam
YOU ARE WRONG!
Ace Hotel is fucking great (we didnt get any money to write this… but that would be kind-of-very-nice LOL), amazing interior design, great concept and honest & authentic social branding! Just check their great blog, did you see any “corporate” post about the Pussy Riot Incident? They wrote about it, that and much more!
We are really HAPPY to see truly authentic branding and such social involvement, so cool!!
YOU ARE WRONG!

Matto Bar & Pizzeria in Shanghai is a great example of masterfully crafted interior design with delicious attention to detail, the project was done by Pure Creative International in HK. We like both interior design and restaurant branding, with special mention to their simple but superior website design and great press resources! As for the food, we haven’t had the opportunity, but “Delicious!” was the word when we asked our friend, CityWeekend Shanghai‘s editor, Geoff Ng.

Interesting trend going on with the cargo or shipping containers being used in Food & Beverage (also in Hospitality) as interior / exterior design elements, we like it and understand that it that can very interesting cost effective wise; but it really looks much better when is a used with a little bit of context:
Pop-up food truck + container = cool.
Italian restaurant + container = not so cool.
Starbucks Tukwila, Seattle. Wahaca Street Food Southank, London. Lobster Box MOVBOX, Montreal.
Restaurante italiano + container = no tan guay.

Beautiful restaurant interior design project by Italian architects Archiplan for Ristorante LaCucina en Mantova, Italy. We really like the idea of using a minimalist style for an Italian restaurant, also the dominant white color and wood make a great combination. But, and we say that with a “lot of love”, we miss a better graphic design and branding work, specially in the restaurant website.

Joyce Wang did an spectacular restaurant interior design work for AMMO in Hong Kong.
The team behind AMMO is local celebrity chef and restaurateur Tony Cheng, together with his mentor, Chef Roland Schuller from The Drawing Room, some words by restaurateurs:
“In a setting unmatched anywhere in Hong Kong, AMMO draws inspiration from the historical, architectural and cultural significance of its location. A former explosives magazine compound created by the British army in the mid-19th century, the site underwent a conversion by renowned New York-based architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien and is now the Asia Society Hong Kong Center. AMMO, a slang term for ammunition, is also an acronym for Asia, Modern, Museum and Original, effectively communicating the overall culinary and dining experience. The phrase acknowledges the café’s Asian roots and identity, its thoroughly modern continental cuisine, its unquestionably unique position within a heritage landmark museum, and its original concept.”

Tag Collective from NYC was asked to renew identity and create new interior design for Brooklyn Taco Co., using their own words, they did a great job communicating the brand’s “of modern authenticity”.
“ After successfully growing their business through NYC street markets like Hester St. Fair, Brooklyn Taco owners, Jesse and Erica, decided it was time for their brand to grow. We were tasked to not only create a new graphic identity, but also build out their first permanent taqueria in Essex St. Market.
The identity started with a wordmark that speaks to their craft and references hand painted signage seen throughout Brooklyn, this is paired with a Mexican inspired color palette and patterns. From the groundwork created by the graphic identity, the space took shape incorporating a strong graphic pattern, color palette and typography provided by the brand toolkit.
Brooklyn Tacos identity and space now seamlessly connect and tell a story of modern authenticity.”

We love beer and we love Top Hops!
Great brand identity project by Helms Workshop from Texas, for Top Hops Beer Shop in NY, really good typography, authentic feeling and very cohesive overall look. We love beer and we love Top Hops! In Helms Workshop own own words:
“Top Hops is a culture-center for craft beer in Manhattan. It’s the kind of place where seasoned beer geeks can share their enthusiasm and new craft beer fans can learn a bit more about the magic combination of hops, yeast, barley and water. They’re not just a retail store— Ted and Christina have built a celebration of beer, and the good people who brew it. They foster appreciation for the craft, history and taste of great beer— they’re not just merchants, but advocates as well.
Workshop teamed with Ted and Christina early in the development of the business plan, and collaborated with architects, environmental designers and sign fabricators to create a unique and bold expression of their passion for beer. More images of signage and environment coming soon.”

Bravo!
Riffle NW in Portland’s Pearl District is a great restaurant branding project by Hovercraft. We are in love with their color plate selection and table “hole” idea to drop the drink menu. Bravo!
In Hovercraft own words:
“A restaurant located in Portland’s Pearl District, Riffle NW is led by accomplished executive chef Ken Norris and Jennifer Q. Norris. The menu is built upon all things sustainable, ocean and river (see: catch inspired). Our role was to develop a complete brand experience that supported the notion of finer dining in a more personable and laid back environment. Anchored around a series of illustration’s, the identity system spreads across all collateral, from matchbooks & menus to kitchen staff uniforms. We also delivered an in-depth & highly responsive HTML5 driven website and mobile experience.
Riffle was happy enough with our work to name a delicious pepper vodka concoction the Hovercraft, which is probably our biggest accomplishment to date”
